Mortality in a Moroccan psychiatric hospital

Abstract Background and objectives Even though the statistics have shown that patients with severe mental disorders such as schizophrenia bipolar disorder are most likely to die 10 20 years earlier than general population, information on mortality in Moroccan psychiatric setting is significantly limited. In course of this study, we aim describe clinical characteristics death-related data 18 who died over years. Methods It a retrospective descriptive study deceased inpatients within Department Psychiatry University Hospital Center, Ibn Rochd. The extended period years, from January 1, 2011, 2021. Results identified death cases rate 1.99/1000, which average age around 46,4 Men represented 55.6% patients. 44.4% were diagnosed schizophrenia, 39% had medical comorbidity. common causes cardiac (22.2%), followed by neuroleptic malignant syndrome (16.7%). Suicide, sudden death, digestive diseases accounted for 11.1% all causes. Conclusion People experience high rate. cardiovascular main requires close monitoring high-risk comorbid problems.
